The Sevens ADU

Accessory Dwelling Unit

900 sq. ft.

San Jose, CA

Needing a place for his aging parents, the homeowner took advantage of new legislation to add an ADU to his property. In addition to living space, he wanted a place where he and his family would have a home that is resistant to ever changing climate challenges. The client, an architect, turned to Mayberry Workshop to design a budget-friendly structure that didn’t sacrifice style.

The design integrates corrugated metal siding and roof materials seamlessly, helping the two materials blend. It is void of overly fussy details and gives the ADU a monolithic appearance. Inside, the tall loft space makes the interior feel spacious and airy. Two bedrooms and two flexible loft spaces easily accommodate different living needs. Using SIP panel construction for the building envelope helps the ADU to achieve net-zero energy efficiency and eliminates outdoor air infiltration for a healthier environment.
